Telephone will be based on age, and maturity. No matter the age, the child will have a telephone line in the home. This will connect with the WP815 that is in their bedroom, and there is a dedicated number tied to that telephone. There is also voicemail that they can also setup, and have for their use. With a telephone line, the child will learn how to use the telephone properly. They will learn the best way to answer the phone, and the best way to leave a message. They will learn how to communicate on the phone, and what is appropriate to talk about over the phone. Since all of the phones in the home is registered with my dedicated SIP provider, each phone will be assigned to an extension, and that extension can also be used to ring that phone. For example, bedroom 2 might have extension 102. Whoever sleeps in bedroom 2 will be able to be reached by dialing 102 in the house phone lines.
Once the child is mature enough, I will acquire a cellular phone for them. They will be able to choose any phone that is $1,000 or less. They can choose Android, or iPhone. If they have a Mac PC, they will be recommended to acquire an iPhone for ease of integration. When they receive their phone, they will be provided with a telephone provider. This will mean they will have 2 telephone numbers, and 2 telephone lines. This will give them an option to provide just their closest personal friends with the cellular number. One rule is they are always to answer the phone when I call. They will receive my home phone number, and my cellular phone number. If they choose to not answer the phone on a regular basis, they will forfeit their allowance to use the cellular phone until they show they can behave with the phone. When they acquire a telephone line, I will pay the first 3 months, and they will be responsible for the additional months. I will suggest to them to save up to pay for 1 year at a time. This will allow them to have a telephone number even if they were no longer in my custody.
If they were to leave my custody, they will lose their home phone line, but as long as they pay their cellular bill, they will have their cellular phone line. They will be informed that they will always be able to call me if they should be in trouble, and need help. Obviously, I will not violate the law on their behalf, but if they need a trusted adult to intervene, I will do so.
